A return to the world of Rail Safety Reviews!
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch has recently published both a new Summary of Learning on overspeeding and its Annual Report for 2025. In this episode we take a step back from individual accidents to explore what these documents reveal about the wider picture of railway safety.
We’ll look at the common themes behind recent overspeeding incidents, why they continue to occur despite an increasingly safe railway, and what lessons the industry is drawing from them. We’ll also take a tour through the RAIB’s annual review, reflecting on the key safety themes of 2025 and the challenges that continue to shape Britain’s railways.
